A Review Blog for people who like... fun stuff

the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 map pack 2 was released today. Server owners should now be able to add the 2 maps to their mapcycle.

levels/mp_006cq = Arica Harbor (Conquest)

levels/mp_009gr = Laguna Presa (Rush)

Arica Harbor Conquest Mode: Take to the streets and put your infantry skills to the test! Capture strategic town positions as Arica Harbor is enhanced with Conquest Mode.

Laguna Presa Rush Mode: Capture and secure M-COM stations in Laguna Presa’s Rush Mode and discover all-new areas of the maps to take on the enemy.

The map pack is available with the VIP code which is included in every new copy of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Players that do not have a code can purchase one via the in-game store, PC players will get the content as a game update. VIP status is also available to those on consoles without a VIP code through Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network.

To access the map pack content on console with your VIP status, go into the in-game store of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and select the VIP Map Pack 2. The maps will get added to your available map list so you can get straight into the servers and play. PC players will automatically have these maps added to the map rotation by the server providers.

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops?

Posted by F.S.F.Dime On 8:24 AM 0 comments

Black Ops is scheduled for release in November 2010 and sources indicate the game developed by Treyarch will be set in history, between World War II and present day. It is also hinted that some of the missions will take gamers to Cuba and South America which hints at a Cold War and Vietnam based game.

In true Modern Warfare style, gamers will reportedly get a chance to play as a member of the Special Air Service (SAS) in which players will be involved in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy during the 1980’s.

The game is also hinted to feature the popular “zombie mode” where players will get to gun down forces of zombies which was made popular in Call of Duty: World at War.

For South African PC gamers and worldwide PC gamers alike, CoD7 is set to feature dedicated servers. Gamers across the world should put their hands together for Activision who seem to be weeding out the problems with previous titles by re-adding dedicated servers to the franchise.

"... With a scheduled release date of November 2010 the game is still in full development but undisclosed sources over at Activision have stated that "Call of Duty 7 will be set in recent history, between WWII and present day". Besides this information the sources have also confirmed that some missions will take us to Cuba and South America, hinting again in the direction of a Cold War / Vietnam based game.

Also revealed was that in certain missions the players are able to play as a member of SAS (the Special Air Service), the principle special forces unit of the British Army. One of these SAS missions pitches you in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy in London during the 1980's.

It has also been confirmed that Call of Duty 7: Black Ops will feature the popular zombie mode, in which players get to shoot down hordes of zombies, a feature that could not be seen in the Infinity Ward produced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

And last but not least, dedicated servers will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers."

Let's get the hard data out of the way first: 480 CUDA cores, 700 MHz graphics and 1,401MHz processor clock speeds, plus 1.5GB of onboard GDDR5 memory running at 1,848MHz (for a 3.7GHz effective data rate). Those are the specs upon which Fermi is built, and those are the numbers that will seek to justify a $499 price tag and a spectacular 250W TDP. We attended a presentation by NVIDIA this afternoon, where the above GTX 480 and its lite version, the GTX 470, were detailed. The latter card will come with a humbler 1.2GB of memory plus 607MHz, 1,215MHz and 1,674MHz clocks, while dinging your wallet for $349 and straining your case's cooling with 215W of hotness.

NVIDIA's first DirectX 11 parts are betting big on tessellation becoming the way games are rendered in the future, with the entire architecture being geared toward taking duties off the CPU and freeing up its cycles to deliver performance improvements elsewhere. This is perhaps no better evidenced than by the fact that both GTX models scored fewer 3DMarks than the Radeon HD 5870 and HD 5850 that they're competing against, but managed to deliver higher frame rates than their respective competitors in in-game benchmarks from NVIDIA. The final bit of major news here relates to SLI scaling, which is frankly remarkable. NVIDIA claims a consistent 90 percent performance improvement (over a single card) when running GTX 480s in tandem, which is as efficient as any multi-GPU setup we've yet seen. After the break you'll find a pair of tech demos and a roundup of the most cogent reviews.

Hexus:  We can't comment on the authenticity of the results, but the figures reinforce the belief that NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 480 will become the fastest single-GPU graphics card on offer.

Personally I'm going to wait until early 2011 to get one. let them work all the bugs out and streamline the boards and gpu and drivers.

Who ordered the X-Large Mobo Pizza with extra CPU's??

We are proud to present the EVGA Classified SR-2, the absolute ultimate for the extreme user. It takes everything that made the X58 Classified 4-way SLI motherboard great and doubled it up. Now you can experience the ultimate in overclocked multithreaded performance by way of Dual 1366 sockets which allow for hyper-threaded Intel Xeon CPU’s to be combined together for massive amounts of workload to be spread across a multitude of processing threads.

When combined with compatible Intel 6 Core CPU’s, you create a massive system capable of up to 24 CPU threads of compute power. If you want future-proof, this is it!

We have literally created a new form factor to fit all the amazing things on one board. Whether you are an extreme gamer, overclocker, power user, workstation user, server admin, folder/cruncher, or just a PC enthusiast; this is the ultimate motherboard. This board will encode your movies, render your images, or even load your games faster than you ever thought possible.

Patch Is Up.....at least for non steam users?!?!

*UPDATE* 533175 is going live now. STEAM will launch later, possibly tomorrow, as it needs to go through extra QA before it goes live on Steam.

Version 522175 is live. This has fixed the multiplayer map CTD's we experienced with 522174.

BFBC2 Tweaks

Posted by F.S.F.Dime On 3:36 PM 0 comments

If your game is constantly Crashing:
- Make Sure you are running the game as Administrator

For a reported 10-20 fps boost:
- Edit using Notepad C:\Users\XXX\Documents\BFBC2\settings.ini
- Change "renderaheadlimit" to 0 instead of 2

For another potentially big performance update
-Edit using Notepad C:\Users\XXX\Documents\BFBC2\settings.ini
- Change "HSAO=true" to false

To run DX9 for improved performance (this also stops random crashes for some people):
- -Edit using Notepad C:\Users\XXX\Documents\BFBC2\settings.ini
- Change "DxVersion=auto" to "DxVersion=9" without quotations

For a reported giant general performance boost:
- Edit using Notepad C:\Users\XXX\Documents\BFBC2\settings.ini
- Change "Bloom=true" to false

Other settings.ini changes that you can try:
- Edit using Notepad C:\Users\XXX\Documents\BFBC2\settings.ini
- Undergrowth=”medium” – Put this to low, if experiencing frame-rate issues. This map has a lot of it.
- Water=”medium” – Not really any water to traverse in this map, go ahead and set this to low.
- MSAA=”2? – This is Anti-aliasing, this will always use up a lot of a gpx cards resources. Set this to “0?
- Shadows=”medium”- you can also set this to low to improve performance
- Textures=”medium”- Setting this to low can improve FPS at the cost of visual eye candy.
- Aniso=2 – Set this to 0 to disable Anisotropic filtering.

To Fix Yaw Left/Right On Joysticks (from Necromancer on Steam)
1. Open Documents\BFBC2\Input\air.dbx with Notepad
2. Search for the string ConceptYaw
3. Below it look for this section:

Code:
<instance
guid="EC8ED584-471E-473F-A0A7-865B5C15A6FF"
type="GameSharedResources.PadInputActionData">

<field name="IsAnalog">true</field>
   <field name="NegateValue">false</field>
   <field name="Axis">IDA_Undefined</field>
   <field name="NormalizeInput">false</field>
   <field name="ScaleValue">1</field>
   <field name="UseSquareInput">false</field>
   <field name="Button">IDB_Undefined</field>
   <field name="Pov">IDP_POV_Undefined</field>
  </instance>
On the line <field name=”ScaleValue”>1</field> change 1 to -1

Changing Sound from Software to Hardware
In the GAMESETTINGS.INI change the following value

SoundSystemSize=1 to..
SoundSystemSize=2

1=software, 2=hardware. Apparently the the audio was designed to be a software engine mainly because of the console versions. I guess when switching it to hardware it dedicates all audio processing to 1 core which they didn't want to do on consoles (rumor?).

What ports should I open for multiplayer if I’m having connectivity trouble?
port 18390 TCP Outgoing
port 18395 TCP Outgoing
port 18395 UDP Outgoing
port 13505 TCP Outgoing
port 80 TCP Outgoing

**Unconfirmed**

UDP 22000 (This is only for LAN)
UDP range 23000-23009
# GameSpy Master Server UDP Heartbeat: Allow UDP Port 27900
# GameSpy Master Server List Request: Allow TCP Port 28900

For those who are playing BC2 in the same network as another person:
Many are experiencing getting kicked when a friend on LAN joins the same server. To fix this, in Steam:
- Go to Steam's My games menu
- Right-click on the BFBC2 and select Properties
- From the General tab, click the Set launch options button
- Add a different client port number on each machine between 27005 and 27032 in the following format:
- Code: +clientport 270XX (Where XX is a different number for each system - do not use 27020)

k where to start, so many good things about this game. little background, I played ps3 beta, pc beta and retail versions of this game. This is not Battlefield 3 or 2 or 1942 or vietnam , it is its own game.

I'll start here, Recently, EA has had alot of stability problems with thier "Master Server". It would periodically crash and keep anyone from logging in. This review is about the game not the connectivity issues. with this said I'll start from there.

The Game is graphically Amazing and it runds remarkably well on my system (see my first post).
I have everything set to high and maxed out AA and AF set to max, hsao turned off and vsync off.
It runs Butter, eyegasms galore. This has to be the most visually stunning game I have played to date.MGS4 for ps3 has dropped to the number 2 slot. Dice has used alot of tricks to make the map seem huge, skyboxes are beautiful and are given same treatment as explorable areas of the game. The audio of the game is fantastic as well, it really immerses you into the feel of the game, the urge to fight and push on with squadmates yelling for medics and mocking their now dead targets. The one complaint I would have here is the language, I have kids and I'd love to play without a headset but the fbombs are abundant, I understand why the languages is in the game but still. There is also a motion sickness factor if you don't like games without steadycamera's this isn't for you, be nice if they could have a option to turn it off. Fov is nice but can also be made bigger in settings.ini. and don't forget Destructible environments.

Squad Management

you can splint your team u into squads of 4 while in the squad your teammates will show up with green logos over their head depending on their class.while other people on your team will not show classes and be light blue. you will get an extra +10 points to resupplying and throwing medpacks to your squad members vs your teammates but any points are good points. One thing I do not like about the squad system is you cannot, at this time, Organize your squad. Anyone can join your squad and sometimes can leave you with a squad full of recon, I hope they fix this.

Ranks and unlocks

Unlike BF2, Bad Company 2  seems to rank up quickly if you know what your doing, with extra points being added like a gold star for 5000 pts you can rank fairly quicky,as of right now I am level 24 and progression has seemed to slow down. here is a  lists of the ranking system
The Rank structure has been changed slightly. Each rank title has 3 different variants, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Below is a list of the rank title structure:

Pins

Pins are rewards for completing certain pre-set objectives during a round of multiplayer. Insignia’s are much like pins, except they are milestone rewards. You accumulate stats and complete objectives over time, in hopes of unlocking the badge. It’s important to note that “Pins” are round based and “Insignia’s” are career based.

Bad Company 2 features 40 different Pins for players to earn during each round. Points can be earned each time you are awarded a pin. In the Beta, Pins are either worth 100, or 200 points. The same pin can be earned multiple times during a round (Stacked). When you complete one of the “Pin” objectives that DICE has set forth during a round, a small animation will play at the top of your screen in-game. Players can review all of the Pins they have earned at the “End of Round” screen or “Personal Stats” screen.

Insignias

Insignia’s are rewards for completing certain goals over your Bad Company 2 Career. Each Insignia has a nice “Badge” type Illustration made by DICE. Insignia’s are worth 5000, to 10,000 points a each and they are all objective based. Pins are very similar, except pins are round based, and Insignia’s are career based. Hit Detection

This subject is kind of, well, hit and miss (rimshot) depending on your connection to the server you are playing it can be spot on or can't hit broad side of the barn. I've had instances where I'd hit someone and a X would show a hit but they didn't die.....knifing.... bah. but for me I'd say a good 95 to 95% of the time my hits are detected.

Server Browser
It's alot like any other server browser, except it's got bugs, sometimes it will serach for ages and may require the dreaded end task.

Maps

Rush and Conquest maps are huge and awesome to behold, same goes with the small squad rush and squad deathmatch maps minus the huge part. The thing is there are not that many maps.... Yes there is a map pack coming at the end of march but it's only two maps :

Arica Harbor Conquest mode – US Command launches a break through action directly at the Russian base. Collateral damage is of no consequence. Capture and secure tactical positions in Conquest Mode across the vast Arica Harbor map.

Laguna Presa Rush mode – The valley and surrounding mountains possess a strategic value in the battle for South America, and an infantry assault supported by light armor vehicles is likely by both armies as US forces defend the nearby Dam.

Source

and there not new they are just rehashed. Its not a huge deal because I'm still enjoying the game but makes me concerned that people will get bored quickly, mw2 caused alot of gamers to have A.D.D in my opinion, and with as beautiful as these maps are I personally want to see more. And at the time of this post you cannot cycle gametypes so your server is either Conquest, Rush...ect, unless you change it and reset the server.

heres a current list of maps:

Huge Multiplayer Maps. Each with a different tactical and gameplay focus and set across a variety of environments

How many multiplayer maps? 16, 5 customized for Squad Rush.

Map: Atacoma Desert - A Russian Naval Group is preparing a massive amphibious assault. Defending the shore are 3 U.S fortifications and a string of artillery defenses. Should the Russians establish a beachhead and overrun U.S. positions, they will be free to advance further inland. With weather deteriorating and sandstorms approaching, U.S. Command has consolidated all available forces to meet the Russian threat. As a result of the open ground, a large-scale armor battle supported by attack helicopters seems likely.

Map: Port Valdez - "The battle for Port Valdez is fought alongside the waterline towards a great oil industrial landscape in the Alaskan mountains. Using basically everything they've got the Russian forces are launching an airborne assault to knock out the oil industries in the area. In their arsenal there are Main Battle Tanks as well as fast-moving Quad Bikes and mobile armored AA. It's a vehicle focused battle, but with plenty of infantry combat."

Map: Arica Harbour - "This new map displays a superb balance of vehicle and infantry combat, as the American assault unit attacks the Russian army base with full force, advancing further through a beautiful desert town and towards the industrial area in a desperate attempt to overtake the Arica Harbour. Heavy vehicle warfare on the first bases gradually turns into an intense infantry fight as the level progresses, showcasing this best-in-class online war experience."

Map: Panama Canal- Panama Canal features a tight battle with abandonded industrial buildings, vehicles, large ships, and piles of debris everywhere with billowing smoke off in the distance as the surrounding forest rages of fire while the surrounding city is bombarded by enemy ballistics. The map has a four flag setup, with two flags being more focused on vehicle warfare with IFVs and MBTs. The center flags are infantry focused and the team in control of either centre flag will get access to an attack helicopter or an AA vehicle respectively. (conquest mode)

Map: Laguna Presa - Laguna Presa is home to gobs of lush greenery that seemed to pop off the screen a bit more than any of the colors in the first Bad Company. There are large shipping crates situated around the level that act as protective cover from the marauding tank (in SQDM mode) that chops down soldiers. Laguna Presa also changes elevations quite often -- with both high ground and low ground -- and includes plenty of shrubbery which makes for an easy hiding place for snipers.

Map: Valparaiso Village - The American capture of Valparaiso is the next phase in their strategic plan to repel Russian Forces from Chile. Any U.S. invasion will inevitably consist of a land assault through the outlying jungle areas and an amphibious landing of infantry and armored forces along the coast. The U.S objective is the Power Station on the outskirts of the city. If the installation can be captured and services cut off, the liberation of the city will inevitably follow suit.

Map: Laguna Alta - Several days ago a large Russian counter attack overran U.S. Camp "Christopher" and destroyed a supply train carrying vital equipment. U.S Forces are mustering to recapture the area. They are trying to establish a buffer zone near the woodlands so their Battle Group can move unimpeded across the bridge connecting the opposing high ground. Intelligence reports and Recon patrols have exposed a large number of Russian troops and IFVs that have reinforced the camp since the attack occurred.

Map: Isla Inocentes - U.S. Forces are desperate to open a supply route for an Armored Battle Group engaged in fighting further inland. A Russian Artillery base controls the area and counters any breakout actions launched. The base is well defended and has been successful in repelling previous attacks. Destruction of the base and control of the woodlands will allow U.S Amphibious Forces to land and open a second front, which is critical in their plan to liberate South America.

Map: White Pass - As the weather has cleared and snowfall relented, Russian Forces are massing for an assault on White Pass and the satellite relay station located there. The local town has not been attacked, but Russian units have probed defenses in the surrounding woods. The sector has strategic value to U.S Forces as it allows control of inland routes. Should the area fall into Russian hands, a line of advance will present itself directly to Nelson Bay.

Map: Nelson Bay - Winter has hit hard. The river has frozen allowing heavy equipment and personnel to operate throughout the sector. However, the extreme weather and surrounding woods make it unlikely that any assault will consist of heavy armor. Satellite reconnaissance indicates Russian Special Forces and airborne units have been pulled away from South America and are gathering on mass. A nighttime assault is eminent. Nelson Bay harbors an underground U.S submarine base that will be defended at all cost.

Map: Heart of Darkness - Bolivian jungle map referenced in single-player previews**

Single Player on the same Maps? "The multiplayer uses both custom versions of campaign mode maps and original maps".

And that concludes everything I can think of for now, theres a huge vechile list but that wouldn't effect my review, but heres a website you can browse them at :Vechiles and Weapons list

I bought this item after looking at the "best" Gamer keyboards on the market and I'm glad I mad the plunge. The keyboard lights up and thats a big plus because I prefer gaming with the lights off. It immerses me into the game more so than when lights are on. I also like the keypad on the right side of the board,
not that the w, a ,s and d keys don't do well but I like how big the keys are and seems harder to loose your place whilst playing games that have Pvp (FPS, WoW,ect..) I do however have a little issue with the 1-11 keys above though...   It doesn't seem to be as intuitive for me as I would like sometimes I find myself looking to hit the 3 key and will hit 2 and 4  but miss three, not a good thing when in a intense battle online. The Software Z-Engine is great you can modify keys and even add macros to key strokes say you want to throw a nade in CSS and then switch from nade back to handgun instead of  main gun or even to knife, you can set up a macro to perform that action. I've personally never made any macros so I don't have alot of experience with it; I've yet to find a need to simplify my game play.
Call me old fashioned. However sometimes the Z-Engine keys don't seem to work in game and may require you to set it up in the games settings.

Media keys work great while in game I can use it to skip mp3's on Windows media player, forwards and backwards. I've used the usb hubs to charge my phone and ipod, but I already have 10 or so usb ports on my pc so I don't use them for my joystick or things of that sort. I've used the audio jacks once and find them to work fine though some people complain about buzzing, I didn't have this issue.  The right hand side is missing arrow keys and the numberlock pad has the action keys sharing same pad, you have to toggle num lock on and off to use Delete, Insert, ect..

Pros:
Illuminated
Works great
Z-engine Software
Rubber keys make it easy to clean

Cons:
Pricey
Learning curve to learn new setup

5 out of 5 scale
Price                  2/5
Design                4/5
Ease of Use        4/5

I would definately recommend this keyboard. Its a solid Gaming keyboard with alot of functionality.
